A Day of Recollection 2017

"The Family - Called to be a Holy Domestic Church." was the theme for this year's Day of Recollection held on 18 March 2017 @CSC.  We were blessed to have Fr James Yeo, Rector, Catholic Theological Institute of Singapore, to be our Retreat Master for the day.  In this technological age, it was only appropriate that families be reminded once again not only to respond to today's challenges, but also and above all, to the calling from God to an ever-increasing awareness of its missionary identity as a Domestic Church.  Fr James reminded that families needed to focus on Family Spirituality as a way of life, praying together as a family, supporting one another as a family, and through the Sacraments of the Catholic Church.  This is the way that all Catholics should lead their lives and therefore become good Catholics.

Padre Pio's counselling to his spiritual children was also reflected on how he continuously assisted and cared for the family, always giving advice to go to confession every 8 days, and to receive Holy Communion as often as possible.  He advised them to meditate twice a day, and to examine one's conscience, and read the scriptures.  "In all the free time you have, once you have finished the duties of your state, you should kneel down and pray the rosary, pray the rosary before the Blessed Sacrament or the Crucifix."

Sacramentals consisting of the blessed oil, blessed salt, and holy water were blessed by Fr. James Yeo and distributed to the faithful. Sacramentals are instituted by the Church as Sacred signs which bear a resemblance to the Sacraments. They signify the effects, particularly of a spiritual nature, which are obtained through the intercession of the Church. By them, men are disposed to receive the chief effect of the Sacraments, and various occasions in life are rendered holy
.
Below are some of the highlights during the recollection.
